Organizations have a variety of reasons for
working with a Physical Security Consultant.
Here are a few of them:
- Security Integrators and Dealers generally provide quality answers to specific client requests. Ask a dealer to install a CCTV system with cameras to view specific areas, and they will do a fine job. Ask a Security Consultant that same question and they will ask why. The answer and resulting solution may be a change to how the facility is used, or a change in other systems. Consultants go beyond the simple answer to find the best solution.
- Consultants bring with them a credential which makes Senior Management more receptive to their recommendations than those made by employees.
- Many organizations require the development of bid documents which can be offered in a competitive bidding process.
- Since consultants are not “selling”, they can offer an independent recommendation which involves the best solutions for the specific application. Dealers offer solutions based upon the product lines offered by their firm.
- Consultants generally maintain a more complete understanding of the latest technologies and security practices. They are able to provide an independent evaluation of competitive technologies and their application to the client's specific needs.
- Without clearly defined contract documents (drawings and specifications), organizations can not be assured that vendors ' bids will be equivalent. For example, explain a desired system to five different vendors and the results will likely be five widely varying designs with vastly different performance capabilities. The resulting “low cost” vendor may not provide a system which the client believes he is receiving, but which will meet the letter of the initial request.
- Clients generally will save more than the cost of a consultant's services through the competitive “bid process”, and most reputable vendors appreciate a clear set of construction documents because they realize the bid process will be strictly competitive.
